For detailed information see the IAC Calendar.

RC Scale models are miniature replicas of full-scale aircraft.  They are judged for the degree of perfection in matching the full-scale aircraft's scaled measurements, finish, details, etc.  How well the models' flight maneuvers match those the full-scale aircraft could perform is also scored.  The models are quite varied; almost any airplane you can think of has modeled.  Today, even jet aircraft are becoming popular and are normally found in the top 10 of any Scale contest.

2020 Outdoor Nats to Proceed as Scheduled

After careful deliberation, the AMA Executive Council has agreed to not cancel the 2020 Outdoor Nats. This decision is aligned with state and federal guidelines for events concerning COVID-19.

The 2020 AMA Nats will take place to the extent that individual Nats organizers plan and conduct their respective events. Additional safety measures will be in place to protect our members, staff, and community. Nats participants and visitors to the International Aeromdeling Center will have limited access to AMA facilities and should anticipate a scaled-back Nats experience.

RC and CL Scale Nats Update

The 2020 National Aeromodeling Championships (Nats) are still scheduled to begin July 12. AMA is continuing to monitor the situation surrounding the COVID-19 pandemic and it’s impact on our upcoming events. Our final decision on moving forward with the Nats will take place June 10. AMA Special Interest Groups (SIGs) are also making decisions for their individual schedules, and some are choosing to make earlier cancellations for their events The following message is from Mike Barbee, president of the National Association of Scale Aeromodelers:

July 15, 2019: RC Scale

After a beautiful Saturday, Sunday dawned with cloudy skies and the threat of thunderstorms. We were out early scrambling to cover models under tents and pull sides down on canopies. The storms then sort of sideslipped the AMA site and we didn’t receive more than a few sprinkles.

Round 3 started around 8:30 a.m., and the conditions were great for flying competition. Several pilots put in their best flights of the weekend.

This year the weather has played a role in everything around Muncie, Indiana. Friday dawned a bit cooler, but much more windy. The weather has turned out to be another beautiful week and we are looking forward to a sunny weekend of great competition!

Competitors are here from across the US, as well as judges and officials all to make this a great Scale Nats.

For the last few years, we have had the pleasure of flying off of Site 4 at the very back of the AMA property, in Muncie, Indiana, at the national flying site. This not only allows the RC site a great grass field to fly from, but provides enough room to include the CL Scale Nats division at the same time on the other side of the property.
