The crew that set up the Navy Carrier deck.
By Melvin Schuette
The Saturday before the Navy Carrier events were scheduled to start, the gentleman that was scheduled to be the event director had a family emergency that prevented him from attending the 2026 AMA Nationals. Contestants Pete Mazur and Melvin Schuette volunteered to run the events.
The Navy Carrier deck has been set up, and all the planes have been processed.

Ron Duly and Paul Smith competed with each other to see who could enter the most events. Ron Duly entered six of the Carrier events, but lost out to Paul Smith who entered eight Carrier events.
Tuesday, July 7 is the start of competition. Both Profile and Electric Profile events will be flown throughout the day.

Prior to the start of setting up the Carrier site, Bill Bischoff showed the author two inexpensive R/C car radios that have been converted. One of them cost $36 and came with two receivers. The other radio has a portion that holds all of the electronics that is removable from the rest of the handle allowing the transmitter to be carried close to the plane while the contestant works on the motor.
