If the start of Bifecta day one was perfect, this was the definition of “complete opposite!”
It was foggy, everything was damp, it was chilly, and it was drizzling. Tape wouldn't stick to your plane at all, and forget it if you wore glasses.
This just seemed par for the course. There hasn't been any significant weather for almost two weeks. Casa Muncie did not experience another indoor pool like last year, so this had to be the day. Well, I had to pinch myself again. The rain storm passed us by, the foggy overcast lifted and we were flying by 10 a.m.
It was another great soaring day! There was smooth lift and by mid-day the sun was peeking through, heating up the ground and making the thermals even stronger, if not a bit turbulent. To keep this short and sweet, we flew two more complete rounds of Unlimited and three more of Nostalgia, for a total of six rounds for each category. With no new rounds after 1 p.m., we managed to have all the winches and remaining equipment packed up and into the LSF trailer by 2:30! It was an absolutely wonderful example of everyone working together to “git ‘r done.”
With several folks opting to go home early, the leader boards changed a bit. By the conclusion of flying, we had the following folks in the money slots:
Mike Lachowski - 1st in Unlimited, flying his gorgeous Prestige 2PK winch model.
Pete Russell - 2nd in Unlimited, flying an Explorer.
Anatol Polillo - 3rd in Unlimited flying his Supra Pro.
Mike Bergerson “Bubble Boy.” flying a Supra Pro.
Ed Dumas - 1st in Nostalgia, flying his beautifully built and covered Mirage.
Tom Skully - 2nd in Nostalgia, flying his massive Challenger to 2nd place.
Mike Lachowski - 3rd in Nostalgia, flying his Mirage. He won NOS in 2023 with this very model.
Ken Bates “Bubble Boy” flying his original design Jonathan Livingston Sailplane or JLS for short.
This was a great weekend to end the AMA/LSF Soaring Nationals on a high note. A big “Thank you.” to Wayne Wimbish for running a fun event, and major kudos to Ed Dumas who put in 120% effort for the two weeks of AMA/LSF Soaring. Until we do it all again next year… Glider Camp rules!
