Assistant Event Director Darrell Sprayberry brings out his newest toy!
By Tim DiPeri
On Monday morning, the first day of most people’s work week, we all began our second day of competition flying in the 2024 RC Helicopter Nats. By the end of the day, the completion of two (additional) full rounds of F3C, F3N, Expert, and Sportsman occurred. In addition, we began the Scale portion of the competition. Monday was the day that static judging, as well as one flight round, began for the Scale model helicopters. A total of 44 flights were flown throughout the day.

Creative model helicopter pilots from all over the country brought their Scale models for a static round, as well as a single flight score for the day. This was the first full day of Scale model helicopter flying. The Scale category consists of three subcategories: 518 (which has the most weight placed on Scale building), Sport Scale, and “Team Scale.” There are a number of Scale pilots populating each of the Scale subcategories.
