Okay … second-guess the wind and move the NFFS trailer, but as all good Free Flighters know, the wind never shifts. Ultimately, the trailer came back to home but different locations sprung up according to the best places to fly an event. The weather was hot, but absolutely gorgeous for Free Flight.

Our fourth and final day of RC Precision Aerobatics always starts with a special and newly fresh atmosphere. The 2021 Nats was no exception, but the SPECIAL had a whole new meaning this year.
Kevin Young, a regular at our Nats and World Championship competition, made this year extra special. Yes, Kevin is special, but … Kevin was joined this year by his wife, Sarah, and their beautiful daughter Allee. Thank you Sarah and Kevin for this extra special start to Day 4.

On Friday, we woke up to cloudy and windy skies. It was decided to wait until 9 a.m. and see what the weather was going to do. It did start to break up slightly, and we were able to finish up the last two qualifying rounds and a 5-round final.

Well, Wednesday I left off with the statement that Thursday could be a very interesting day. It was!
Contestants were again greeted with cool temperatures and some wind. The temperatures were a little warmer than what we have been greeted with from the past two days, but light jackets were the norm to start out with. The temperatures increased throughout the day, along with the wind and the competition.

Wednesday, June 23, was Class I and II Carrier in both the internal combustion glow motors and electric-powered planes. The difference between the events that were flown on Tuesday and those on Wednesday is that the planes flown on Tuesday used profile fuselages that only have to resemble an actual plane that made a takeoff and arrested landing on a carrier ship or is designated as a carrier-based plane. The classes of Carrier flown on Wednesday have built-up fuselages and must be within plus or minus 5% of the actual scale outline.

We woke up Saturday to rain and predictions of rain all morning. So, it was decided that the contest would be ended at this point and awards would be given out at 10:30 a.m. in the AMA Headquarters building.
It was a nice opportunity for everyone to enjoy the awards ceremony and get one last visit before we all left for home.
It was a great Nats and the Nats team and Nats pilots did a great job of making it a world-class event.

Strong wind gusts prevented flying on Friday. After testing the air, the RC Scale Nats were called for the day. Friday evening was the National Association of Scale Aeromodelers banquet and two pilots were inducted into the RC Scale Hall of Fame.
