David Betz judging Everet Shoemaker's low speed flight.
By Melvin Schuette
If you are a Navy Carrier flier, you couldn't ask for better weather. Well...almost. The temperatures got a little hotter than most would have liked. The winds were calm, which made low speeds easier.
This year, we had two junior entrants. They were Wesley Smith (age 10) and his brother, Conner (age 8), from North Carolina. The boys dad, David Smith, spent most of his day making sure both of the boys had their equipment working. David was allowed to be in the middle of the circle with the boys as a coach, but was not allowed to help them fly in any way.
Both Profile Carrier and Electric Profile Carrier were flown on Tuesday. The Profile Carrier events are divided into two categories; Sportsman Carrier and Open Carrier. Sportsman Carrier is intended for those who are just getting started in the carrier events, while open carrier if for those who have been flying Carrier for a while.
The results for Tuesday's events:
Sportsman Profile
1st Wesley Smith 203.9
2nd Connor Smith 119.4
Profile Carrier
Jo Shoemaker 265.2
Ebernz Angstrom 201.7
Mike Smith 189.4
Electric Profile Carrier
Ebernz Angstrom 272.5
David Smith 258.8
Evert Shoemaker 256.1
