As we roll into our last event—AMA 422, the fastest of our events—we shift gears for the format. Like last year, we will use a single matrix format to determine a National Champion. The single matrix format means that we will have a champion at the conclusion of 10 rounds, rather than the format that was used for 426 (qualifying/finals). However, we will hold a final, or “Super Final,” with the fastest pilots at the end of the event. More to come on that topic.
Two racing legends talking shop. Brian Richmond (left) and Kent Nogy (seated). Kent is flying his K&B color inspired MFL, while Brian is flying a Vess AR6 in his classic scheme. It is fun to watch both compete at a high level.
Mark Parker with is MFL. Mark is always a tough competitor, and we will be watching where he ends up this year.
Q40 is a cross between the old QM15 rules and the old F1 event. The airplanes travel at speeds close to 185 mph and turn on a dime. We have 64 entries, which is an increase from the last couple of years. That is always great to see.

Dan Coe (foreground) and Rich Beers (background) are two of the top pilots in the US. They are flying precious metal models from Italy. They recently returned from an event overseas where they took home some top spots.
The Dirty Monkey racing team flew their Galloping Ghost models. Scott Hartman (left; red, black, and white model) is flying great and is very fast. Tony McDonald (middle) traveled from California with his wife to compete all week and took down some top competitors. Jim Padelt (seated on the right) is also from California, and he is flying his Sweet Vee model. This is a great-flying airplane and is always fast.
