The Quadfecta is a two-day contest, running July 20-21, that utilizes four different classes of sailplane:
-
Unlimited Thermal Duration (TD)
- You can basically fly anything. Most competition pilots prefer a six-channel full house sailplane with Elevator/Rudder/Ailerons and flaps that sports a 3-meter or larger—mostly larger—wingspan.
-
Rudder/Elevator/Spoiler (RES)
- A basic three-channel glider. They can be wooden, made from composites, or a combination of the two.
-
Nostalgia (NOS)
- Any sailplane designed pre-1980.
-
2-meter (2M)
- A sailplane limited to a 2-meter wingspan.
See the AMA website for the complete set of rules for the different classes.
Essentially, a 2M RES NOS design could compete in all four classes. A veritable jack-of-all-trades and master of none. Besides, it's the pilot, not the airplane!
Several of the very helpful competitors showed up early on Friday, July 19, to help set up the winches and get the equipment ready to go. They all deserve a big thank-you!
See you there!
Blue Skies!
