Ron Duly releasing Wesley Smith's Class I Carrier model.
By Melvin Schuette
Wednesday was Scale Class Carrier day. The day started with cloudy skies and the threat of rain, but the clouds cleared off and the sun came out. This will go down in history as the year that the wind did not play a major factor in the outcome of the events. There were four classes of Carrier flown; Class I Carrier, Class I Electric Carrier, Class II Carrier, and Class II Electric Carrier.
Profile models can be flown in the scale classes of carrier, but are not eligible for the scale bonus points, it puts you at a 100-point disadvantage from the start.
The most unusual airplane flown was a XF5U-1 flying Flapjack.

The Eugene Ely award is awarded to the contestant who has the highest combined score in one of the two Profile events, one of the two Class I events and one of the two Class II events. The contestants must declare before competition starts which events they want to use towards the Eugene Ely award. This year the award was presented to Senior-aged competitor Angstrom Eberenz. Angstrom competed in the 2024 Nationals as a Junior and competed as a Senior this year. Angstrom set four Senior-age category records today.

The results for todays events are as follows.
Class I Carrier:
Ron Duly - 326.8
David Smith - 186.1
Wesley Smith - 101.2
Electric Class I Carrier:
Dick Perry 406.8
