A glimpse of the 2024 AMA Indoor Nats venue—the Kibbie Dome in Moscow ID.
By Nick Ray
The 101st iteration of the AMA Nats kicks off on Monday, July 1, 2024, at the Kibbie Dome in Moscow, Idaho. The Kibbie Dome, which is situated atop one of the gently rolling hills of the Palouse, is perhaps the most prominent landmark on the University of Idaho’s campus. Although it is removed from the International Aeromodeling Center in Muncie, Indiana, where many of the AMA Nats events will be contested, the Kibbie Dome’s stable air and 146-foot ceiling make it a worthy Nats venue.
The Kibbie Dome rose to prominence under the stewardship of Andrew Tagliafico, a longtime modeler from Salem, Oregon, who passed away this spring. In addition to being a favored stop on the Indoor Free Flight (FF) contest circuit for many years, the site previously hosted the 1996 F1D World Championships, as well as the 1989, 1995, 2014, and 2023 AMA Nats. Additionally, the Kibbie Dome has been selected as the site of the 2026 F1D World Championships.
This year’s Nats will be officiated by David Lindley, President of the National Free Flight Society. It will feature three contests in one; the AMA Nats will run concurrently with the United States Indoor Championships and the FAI World Cup events for F1D and F1N. Contestants are excited by the news that the curtain rods that previously divided the ceiling into thirds have been removed. It is anticipated that by eliminating these obstructions, flying and steering will be easier and safer. The weather forecast looks ideal outside. Therefore, calm, buoyant air is expected inside.
The event schedule and site records are included below for you to reference. Note that all events span multiple days. Thus, final scores will not be included in daily reporting until the day following the conclusion of the events. The below QR code will eventually obtain the final 2024 AMA Indoor Nats results. Please check back daily to see how the contest is progressing.
