Well, all of the fliers are coming into Muncie, Indiana, getting ready to fly some AMA Control Line (CL) Speed over the next four days. We will be starting off Sunday morning by flying 1/2A Speed, 1/2A Profile Proto, and Perky Speed. It’s amazing that those little .049-size motors can really get up and go.
While Perky has really been gaining a foothold at a lot of contests around the country, it is one of the biggest entered events that we will be flying. You may enter several different models using different manufactured motors. OPS seems to be the hot motor. As long as it’s a .15-size (2.5cc) motor, it will do. If you want an ignition motor, you can go up to a .19.
Perky is flown from a standing start and is timed for 16 laps. Everyone likes to go as fast as possible, but the real prize is that of the best average. We take all of the fast times and divide those scores into how many entries we have, and that is the best average. It can really get rough trying to figure out whether pilots want to go faster or slower to win that prize!
So come out and watch some CL Speed at Site 2 of AMA’s International Aeromodeling Center. When we’re all done with the Nats, we will be flying the Dr. Laird ”Doc” Jackson Memorial F2A World Cup, getting ready for the F2 World Championships that start on Sunday, August 11.
We feel the “Need for Speed.”
