July 28, 2021: Outdoor Free Flight

Okay … second-guess the wind and move the NFFS trailer, but as all good Free Flighters know, the wind never shifts. Ultimately, the trailer came back to home but different locations sprung up according to the best places to fly an event. The weather was hot, but absolutely gorgeous for Free Flight.
July 21, 2021: RC Aerobatics

The first day of the RC Aerobatic Nats is not a flying day. Day one is for registration, weighing all of the airplanes, and certifying the 2-meter maximum fuselage length and wingspan.
To expedite the registration, ED Jon Dieringer has enlisted great help joining him at the registration desk, like Tim Jesky, a legend on Site 1.
July 20, 2021: RC Aerobatics Preview

AMA has published the “official” dates for this year’s Nats. The real question, however, is when did the Nats begin for the pilots?
Yes, they had to register before the deadline, they made transportation and living arrangements, they coordinated with friends, and many other things.
Many traffic delays caused my arrival at AMA’s IAC to be much later than was the plan. On arrival, the sun was setting, but that didn’t stop pilots from one extra trim flight. Bryan Hebert was flying his biplane on Site 3. Check out the setting sun.
June 23, 2021: RC Combat Ends

The first two days of RC Combat went by fast. We were able to get all of the classes finished early and all that was left to fly was E-1000.
E-1000 is a class still being tested out by the RCCA. A proposal has been submitted to add it to the AMA Rulebook as the current rules are working well. E-1000 is an all-electric class with a maximum battery size of a three-cell 1,000 mAh battery. The entire design is left open because the battery size limits the performance of the plane.
June 23, 2021: Control Line Racing

Two events were scheduled to be run Tuesday: AMA Slow Rat and AMA Goodyear. The weather was cool and calm at roughly 52° in the morning. It definitely was one of the coolest Muncie Nats on record. Several teams had blown plug problems, as was rumored to be the same later at the speed circles.
